Looking to lose weight? Overweight or excess weight has reached epidemic proportions globally. It is estimated that 1 billion adults are overweight or obese. 

Generally we use as a guide body mass (Body Mass Index) as the accurate measure of the person’s weight taking into account their height. Simple weighing is more often used and takes a person’s weight and compares it to an estimated ideal weight. Most of us know what our ideal weight should be. If you don’t know your doctor can advise you as often there are individual peculiarities that may require us to adjust our perceived norm.

 

There are many factors other than medical issues that can cause us to temporally gain excess weight or additional weight above what is generally regarded as normal. These include;

• An unbalanced diet or diet with too many animal fats more often than not found in fast food.
• Irregular eating habits, heavy meals before bed, general over eating
• Too many sweet foods drinks and chocolates or foods with high sugar content
• General poor nutrition
• Heavy alcohol intake
• Smoking
• Stress
• Medication
• Hormonal imbalances
• Inactivity

It is generally regarded that the following may assist with weight control losing, weight or body fat

• A balanced nutritional diet
• Several smaller meal portions throughout the day rather than larger meals. In particular a small meal in the evening preferably well before bed.
• Limit foods that have high sugar content or are high in calories
• Regular exercise which has at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity like fast walking, swimming or gym exercise.
• Limit or control alcohol consumption which will in turn increase energy levels
• Reduce and preferably quit smoking
• Monitor medication in conjunction with your doctor’s advice
• Take time out for yourself to relax and enjoy life reduce your stress levels
• Supplements and supports that are targeted at weight management may assist with people struggling with weight issues.
